Visualizing and Refining Terrain Survey

Introduction: For this week's project, the Geography 336 class at the UW of Eau Claire (UWEC) was asked to revisit the topographic landscape that was constructed previously on January 28th, 2016. The purpose of this week's project was to recreate the "snow-scape" from the x, y, and z coordinates collected through the use of ArcMap, and then to resurvey the landscape from last week's project in order to get more points of elevation in designated areas. By doing this, a more accurate depiction of said landscape can be created. Methods: The first step in reconstructing the surveyed terrain was to import the previously constructed excel spreadsheet, that contained the recorded x, y, and z values into ArcMap. This was done by clicking on the "file" tab, then add data, and finally clicking on the "add xy data" option. This gave a simple grid of points that contained the x,y,z data collected. Introduction: In 2014, the undergraduate population of UW-Eau Claire (UWEC) was recorded to be just over 10,000 students with 62% said to be living off campus (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/uw-eau-claire-3917/student-life) . This means that available student parking is often in high demand. Although ample amount of parking lots can be seen around campus, monthly permits are required with starting fees ranging from $100-$200 (depending on the month purchased) and an additional $5 dollars a month to renew it. As a result, street side parking often becomes a preferred method. However this data leads to the question of if alternative parking, in the form of parking meters, was more wide spread, would it be utilized? Even though this question is more in depth than this study requires, it does lead to a more generalized set of questions. Such as; Where are UW-Eau Claire's parking meters located? Navigation at the Priory

Introduction: For this week's assignment the Geography 336 class at UW-Eau Claire, left the main campus to a subdivision know as the Priory. The Priory is a community campus housing area that is located roughly 3.5 miles away from campus. The surrounding land is recovered woodland from what was previously maintained farm land. The point of this exercise was to use navigation maps that were made prior to this and a simple GPS unit to find and record a set of Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates. Study Area: As was previously stated, the Priory is located about 3.5 miles away from lower campus. The official address is: 1190 Priory Rd, Eau Claire, WI, 54702. More specifically, class activity occurred in the forested land surround the establishment. Figure 13.1 is a reference map that depicts the surrounding area.
